You are planning a trip. You open a travel forum and the first question is always the same: do Pakistanis need a visa for this country? The answer changes more often than people think, and a lot of what you read online is out of date.
This is the list as it stands now, based on the latest passport index. It names every country you can enter without a traditional visa, what kind of entry it lets you use, and the small print you should check before you book.
Which countries are visa free for Pakistani passport holders?
Pakistani passport holders can currently enter 29 destinations without getting a traditional visa in advance. The count mixes three kinds of entry: truly visa free, visa on arrival and electronic travel authorisation. This is per the August 2026 update on the Gulf News travel desk.
The breakdown is 11 visa free, 15 visa on arrival and three electronic travel authorisations. The three are not the same thing, so it helps to separate them.
What do visa free, visa on arrival and ETA each mean?
These three look alike but they work differently.
- Visa free means you board the plane with your passport and nothing else. You still have to meet the destination's entry rules, like passport validity and a return ticket.
- Visa on arrival means the visa is stamped at the airport after you land. You usually pay a fee there, and some countries want you to register online first.
- ETA stands for electronic travel authorisation. You apply online before you travel. It is not a traditional visa, but you cannot board without the approval in your hands.
None of these are the same as an e-visa. An e-visa also needs an online application and approval before you fly. The difference is that e-visa countries are not counted in the visa free total.
The 11 fully visa free countries
These are the countries a Pakistani can enter with just a passport, per the Henley Passport Index and the August 2026 list:
- Barbados
- Cook Islands
- Dominica
- Haiti
- Micronesia
- Montserrat
- Rwanda
- St Vincent and the Grenadines
- The Gambia
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Vanuatu
Most of these are in the Caribbean or the Pacific. For travellers in Pakistan they are real options, but not the closest ones. You still fly through a hub.
The 15 visa on arrival countries
Here you get the visa when you touch down. These are the ones on the current list:
- Burundi
- Cambodia
- Comoros Islands
- Djibouti
- Guinea-Bissau
- Madagascar
- Maldives
- Nepal
- Niue
- Palau Islands
- Samoa
- Senegal
- Sierra Leone
- Timor-Leste
- Tuvalu
Check the fee and the registration step before you go. A few of these want advance notice, which turns "on arrival" into "apply online first in practice".
The 3 ETA destinations
Only three countries give Pakistani holders an electronic travel authorisation on this list:
- Kenya
- Seychelles
- Sri Lanka
An ETA has to be sorted online before boarding. It is a quick application, but it is still a mandatory step.
Where the passport stands now
Pakistan is ranked 101st worldwide on the current Henley Passport Index. The ranking has moved a lot in a single year. It sat at 103rd in 2025, reached 97th in February 2026, and has settled back around 100 to 101 since.
Rankings shift when a country adds or removes a visa waiver. One small change, like removing one visa on arrival destination, moves the whole number. The August update dropped Cape Verde from the visa on arrival list, which is why the total sits at 29 rather than 30.
What to check before you book
Visa free does not guarantee entry. Every border officer has the final call, and the rules can change with no notice. Before you pay for a ticket, do this:
- Check your passport has at least six months of validity left.
- Confirm the maximum stay for your nationality.
- Have a return or onward ticket ready.
- Carry proof of where you are staying.
- Carry proof you can support yourself for the trip.
- Check vaccination and health requirements.
- Check the visa on arrival fee for that specific country.
The official source for your own passport status is the Pakistan Directorate General of Immigration and Passports. For a specific country, confirm on that country's own immigration or embassy website before you travel.

A quick note on e-visa options
Beyond the 29, a wider set of countries offer e-visas. These need an online application and approval before you fly, so they do not count as visa free. The list includes Turkey, the UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and Albania, among many others. Henley does not include them in the 29, but for a planned trip an e-visa is often a smooth route.
