You see the ad on Instagram. A young man shows screenshots of his phone. He puts five hundred rupees into a trading app. A minute later the screen says the trade worked and he has more. He shows you how to do the same in a few taps.
This is how people across Pakistan meet Olymp Trade.
The honest question is the one you are asking. Is Olymp Trade legal in Pakistan? The short answer is no. Here is what the law says, who banned it, and what it means for your money.
What is Olymp Trade?
Olymp Trade is an online platform for short term trading and binary options. A binary option is a bet. You decide whether the price of an asset goes up or down within a fixed time. There is no middle result. If you guess right, you get a return. If you guess wrong, your money is gone.
Because the result is one of two, the law treats it like gambling rather than investment. Platforms like this also act as an exchange where you can trade foreign currency and CFDs, which is a different problem when the platform has no licence in Pakistan.
What the Pakistan cyber crime agency did
In August 2025 the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, known as NCCIA, declared dozens of online gambling, casino, and unregulated trading apps illegal across Pakistan. The agency banned 46 apps in one go.
Olymp Trade was on that list. So were Binomo, IQ Option, Pocket Option, Deriv, OctaFX, and Quotex. The agency called them unregulated forex and binary trading platforms and said they carried a high risk of financial exploitation. It said the apps were also harvesting users' personal data and phone numbers without permission. The list was sent to the PTA to block the apps nationwide. You can read the announcement from The News International.
The same treatment applies to every platform that copies this model. If an app wants to be legal in Pakistan, it needs a licence from SECP and the State Bank. Olymp Trade has neither.
What the State Bank of Pakistan says
The State Bank has been clear for years. In its circular of 18 March 2022, it told banks that trading through foreign exchange, margin trading, and CFD apps is a violation of the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act 1947. It listed platforms like OctaFX and Easy Forex by name and told banks to stop all payments to these apps. You can read the full SBP circular on the official website.
So even if you deposit money into Olymp Trade, the banks are directed to block the payment. That is why the deposit path itself is closed for Pakistani users. When the State Bank says money cannot leave the country for this trade, there is no legal way in.
What SECP says about overseas trading apps
SECP, the securities regulator, has repeatedly warned the public against unlicensed online trading platforms. It has flagged platforms that impersonate licensed brokers and lure people with promises of fast returns on gold, oil, and crypto. In April 2025 SECP announced it was cracking down on illegal trading activity, saying unlicensed operators were carrying out trading in currency and commodity futures across Pakistani cities.
The pattern is always the same. A platform with no Pakistani licence, a social media ad, screenshots of big profits, and a payment route that a regulator later blocks. Olymp Trade fits that pattern exactly.
Why a "licence" abroad does not help
You will often see Olymp Trade claim it is regulated in another country. That is true and it is also beside the point.
Being regulated overseas does not give a platform the right to serve people in Pakistan. Local law decides that. In Pakistan, securities and FX trading has to go through SECP registered brokers and SBP authorised dealers. An offshore licence from a foreign regulator is not a Pakistani licence, and it does not protect you under Pakistani law.
To see what good regulation looks like, compare this with how forex trading works legally through SBP approved channels. The legal route exists. These offshore apps are not on it.
Is Olymp Trade the same as IQ Option?
Close. They are sister apps built on the same binary options model. IQ Option was banned in the same August 2025 action, and we covered that separately in our post on whether IQ Option is legal in Pakistan. Everything that applies to IQ Option applies to Olymp Trade.
If someone tells you the two are different, or that one is safer than the other, be careful. Both sit outside every Pakistani regulator. Both work like gambling. Both have been declared illegal.
What is the difference between Olymp Trade and legal investing?
Legal investing in Pakistan happens through licensed channels. You buy shares on the PSX through a broker, or you trade forex through a bank. There is a regulator, records, and a way to complain. Read how legal share trading works in Pakistan to see the contrast.
Binary options apps have none of that. There is no regulator between you and them, no formal record, and no way to recover your money if you are cheated.
The bottom line
Olymp Trade is not legal in Pakistan. It was banned by the cyber crime agency in August 2025 as an unregulated binary options platform. It has no licence from SECP or the State Bank. It works like gambling, which is against the law, and the State Bank blocks payments to it.
If a friend says they make easy money on it, be careful. The platform sits outside every Pakistani regulator and the money is hard to get back once it is gone.
