You hear that a case has been filed against your name. Or you lodged a report yourself and now you want to know where it stands. You do not want to sit in a police station for hours just to ask a question.
The good news is that in most of Pakistan you can now check the status of an FIR online. The catch is that there is no single website for the whole country. Each province runs its own system. This article tells you which one to use and what the answer actually means.
What is an FIR and what does its status mean?
An FIR, or First Information Report, is the first written record of a crime given to the police. Under section 154 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898, the police are bound to write down the information they receive about a serious criminal offence. That is where a case starts. Here is a point people often miss. An FIR does not mean anyone is guilty. It only means a case is open.
The status of an FIR is the stage the case is at. It was registered. It is under investigation. The police sent the case file to court. The trial is running. A decision was given. The police record each of these steps, and you want to see that record.
What do you need to check an FIR status?
You usually need two things. The FIR number, and the police station that recorded it. Some provincial apps also let you check using your CNIC.
One honest point before you start. You cannot type any person's CNIC and pull up every case against them. These systems let you check your own record. That is a privacy protection, not a missing feature.
Punjab
Punjab has the most advanced system. The Electronic FIR system built by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) runs in every police station in the province, and it is linked with Nadra.
To check your status in Punjab:
- Open the Punjab Police website or the Dastak one window portal at pkm.punjab.gov.pk.
- Look under citizen services for FIR verification or a copy of FIR.
- Enter your FIR number and the police station, or your CNIC where the form asks for it.
- Or open the Punjab Police mobile app. It has a citizen FIR tracking option. It first asks you to verify your CNIC once through the Nadra PakID app.
If something looks wrong and you are not getting answers, the IGP complaint center takes calls and messages on the number 1787.

Sindh
Sindh Police has the Police Record Verification System for verification work, and police station records across the province are being digitised. You can apply online, or you can go to a Police Khidmat Markaz in your area where staff help with the forms and any biometric check.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
On the official KPK Police website you can register an FIR and request police records. Use the official portal only. Third party sites that promise to check cases against your CNIC usually want money and often hold nothing real behind the form.
Islamabad
Islamabad Police has a direct copy of FIR service on its website. It is free. Take your original CNIC and two photocopies, give the FIR number and the police station, and you normally get the copy in 5 to 10 minutes. The Smart ICTP mobile app also covers FIR services.
Balochistan
Balochistan is still catching up. Online FIR checking is limited there, so most verification is still done in person at the police station or a Police Khidmat Markaz.
Why the result can be confusing
A few small things trip people up.
- A new FIR may not show online for a day or two after it is filed.
- A single wrong digit in the CNIC returns nothing.
- You can only see your own record, not someone else's.
- An FIR is not a criminal record and not a conviction.

What to do if a false FIR is filed against you
